CHANGE IN STATE OF MATTER

PHASE CHANGE is the change in the state of matter.

PROCESSES:

1. MELTING is the process of changing solid into liquid. 

    EXAMPLE: ice cube melts into water

2. EVAPORATION is the process of changing liquid into gas.

    EXAMPLE: water evaporates into steam

3. DEPOSITION is the process of changing gas into solid.

    EXAMPLE: water vapor turns into hail

4. SUBLIMATION is the process of changing solid into gas without passing the liquid state.

    EXAMPLE: dry ice turns into vapor

5. CONDENSATION is the process of changing gas into liquid.

    EXAMPLE: water vapor condenses into water

6.SOLIDIFICATION is the process of changing liquid into solid.

    EXAMPLE: water solidifies into ice

GENERAL PROCESSES:

1. EXOTHERMAL OR EXOTHERMIC PROCESS

            It is the process that releases energy in the form of heat. Heat is release by the system to the surrounding. It is involve in  sublimation, condensation and  solidification process. Exothermic reactions usually feel hot because it is giving heat to you.

2. ENDOTHERMAL OR ENDOTHERMIC PROCESS

            It is the process that absorbs energy in the form of heat. Heat is absorb by the system from the surrounding It is involve in  melting, evaporation and deposition process. Endothermic reactions usually feel cold because it is taking heat away from you.
